Planning a Disney holiday is without doubt incredibly exciting - but choosing when to visit Walt Disney World Florida can make or break the magic. Crowds, weather, ticket prices, and special events all vary dramatically throughout the year.

At Magic Journey, we specialise in stress-free Disney travel planning - helping UK families plan smarter and travel happier. In this blog, we’ll help you find the perfect time to visit Disney World, based on real crowd trends, seasonal perks, and insider travel tips.

Spring at Walt Disney World (February – April)

Crowd level: Moderate to Busy

Weather: Warm but pleasant temperatures (average highs of 23-28)

Spring highlights:  Blooming flowers, cooler temperatures, Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival.

Spring is one of the most beautiful and comfortable times to visit Disney World. The parks are bright, breezy, full of colour.

The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival transforms the park into a botanical paradise of topiary, concerts and food booths with varying themes.

Crowds begin to ramp up around Easter and Spring Break, and when I say ramp up, I mean ramp up, but early March gives you a golden window - less people, perfect weather, and fabulous value flights and hotels.

Why visit in spring:

  • Lovely weather and long daylight hours

  • Epcot’s Flower & Garden Festival

  • Less humid than summer

  • Ideal for families or first-timers

Magic Journey Tip: Plan your trip for late February or early March for a balance of manageable crowds and perfect weather. Light layers are best, mornings can be surprisingly cool.

Summer at Walt Disney World (May – August)

Crowd level: Busy to Very busy

Weather: Hot and humid (30–35°C) with sudden afternoon thunderstorms

Season highlights: Extended park hours, water parks, classic summer atmosphere

Summer is a peak season at Disney – schools are out, firework shows are frequent, and crowds are lively. Yes, it’s hot and humid, but it’s also the most alive time of the year and if you plan properly you can have the best time.

Why visit in summer:

  • Extended park hours (great for early birds and night owls)

  • The parks tend to be quieter in late August

  • UK school holidays are the perfect time to take the family away.

Magic Journey Tip: Head to the parks early, return to your hotel for a midday rest, and head back for the evening. Pack cooling towels, refillable water bottles and portable fans too (take a look at our curated travel essentials to find the ones we love!).

If you choose Magic Journey Planning Services, we will build you a heat-proof daily itinerary using priority rides, scheduled breaks and dining times so your trip will be both pleasant and cool!

Autumn at Walt Disney World (September – November)

Crowd level: Quiet to Moderate

Weather: Warm with mild rain (25–30°C)

Season highlights: Halloween events, Food & Wine Festival, lower prices

Autumn is a sweet spot for Disney veterans and first-timers alike. Crowds drop sharply after U.S. schools reopen in early September, and the parks take on a cosy, festive atmosphere.

Two huge seasonal events dominate this period:

  • Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (Magic Kingdom)

  • Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

In my personal opinion, these two are the best events you can attend, I promise that has nothing to do with the amount of food and sweets I eat!

Why visit in autumn:

  • Lowest crowd levels of the year (especially in September)

  • Great weather with cooler evenings

  • Seasonal décor and events create amazing photo moments

Magic Journey Tip: Book mid-September or early November for the best of both worlds - fewer crowds, comfortable weather, and event access. October weekends can still get busy due to Halloween parties.

Winter at Walt Disney World (December – January)

Crowd level: Very quiet → Extremely busy (depending on date)

Weather: Mild and comfortable (20–24°C)

Season highlights: Christmas décor, festive parades, lower temperatures

Christmas at Disney is pure magic. From the sparkling castle to fake snow on Main Street, it’s Disney magic at its finest. However, it’s also the busiest period of the entire year, with hotel prices and ticket demand peaking around Christmas week.

Why visit in winter:

  • Cooler weather perfect for long park days

  • Unforgettable Christmas atmosphere

  • Beautiful lighting and holiday entertainment

Magic Journey Tip: Visit in early December or mid-January for a quieter, still-festive experience. If you’re planning a winter Disney trip, we’ll help you design a crowd-optimised itinerary so you can see everything without waiting hours in line.

Weather & Hurricane Season in Florida

Florida’s weather is famously unpredictable - but don’t let that stop you. The “rainy season” runs from June to October, bringing short but heavy afternoon storms. These aren't the sort of storms you get once a week, I am talking almost every single day!

Magic Journey Tip:

  • Always pack ponchos and spare shoes/shoe covers/sandals

  • Store electronics in ziplock bags

  • Book indoor attractions (like Frozen Ever After or Space Mountain) during peak rain hours

  • Embrace it! Some of the biggest laughs I have had with the family is looking across at each other whilst its raining sideways. After all, it rains most days of the year in the UK!

Hurricanes are a part of life in Florida, I have first hand experience of this in fact! During my 2023 trip to Florida with the Magic Journey 'Head of Opinions' George, we were caught in hurricane Idalia. We were fortunate that it wasn't directly over Orlando, but I can tell you, it puts the drizzle and breeze in the UK to shame. It shouldn't be a cause for concern though, Disney has robust safety policies, and Magic Journey VIP clients receive travel-adjustment support if weather impacts their plans.

Choosing the best time to visit Disney
